Does Highmark own the Allegheny Health Network? ›

In 2013, the proposed acquisition became official. West Penn Allegheny Health System continues to exist as a legal entity, but as of 2013 it has been fully absorbed into the larger Allegheny Health Network, which is owned by parent company Highmark Health.

Allegheny Health Network (AHN), a nonprofit, charitable organization, serves western Pennsylvania and parts of neighboring states.

Highmark members with broad-network commercial or Medicare Advantage plans (which is the majority of Highmark members) have full, in-network access to UPMC hospitals, doctors, and services. Highmark members with narrow-network plans have some limited in-network access to UPMC.
